The Story Behind Lamson’s 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife: A Visit from The Republican and MassLive
A historic milestone deserves a piece created to commemorate it.
Recently, Lamson welcomed The Republican and MassLive to our Westfield, Massachusetts facility as reporter Jim Kinney and photographer Douglas Hook visited to learn more about our company, our history, and the story behind our limited-edition 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife.
For Lamson, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary carries a special significance. Founded in 1837 in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, Lamson is one of America’s oldest cutlery manufacturers and has continued its legacy as the nation’s second-oldest knife maker. Throughout our history, our company has remained rooted in Massachusetts, evolving alongside generations of cooks, chefs, and makers while continuing to craft tools designed for purpose, performance, and longevity.
That connection between history and innovation is what inspired our team to create a special-edition piece honoring this historic milestone. The 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife was designed as a celebration of America’s journey, bringing together meaningful design, modern aesthetics, and the exceptional performance expected from a Lamson culinary tool.
Behind the Design of the 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife
Creating a commemorative piece for America’s 250th anniversary called for a design that would immediately stand apart.
Lamson Production Manager George Yacoub approached the design with the goal of creating a full-length visual statement. Rather than adding a small commemorative detail, the knife features an intricate laser-etched American flag that spans the full
length of the blade, transforming the surface into a bold tribute to this historic occasion.
The full knife engraving is paired with Lamson’s Fire Collection handle, featuring a bold red swirl design that adds a contemporary visual element. Together, the detailed flag engraving and distinctive handle create a memorable design that honors tradition while embracing modern craftsmanship.
A Limited Release Created for a Historic Year
The 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife was created specifically to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. This special-edition release reflects both the significance of the occasion and Lamson’s enduring legacy of American manufacturing.
While this piece was designed to celebrate a historic milestone, it remains a fully functional culinary tool built for everyday use. Designed for balance, control, and performance, it is a knife meant to be used in the kitchen, displayed with pride, and appreciated for years to come.
Because this knife was created specifically for this anniversary celebration, it will only be available for a limited time. Once this edition is gone, it will not be produced again.
During their visit, Jim Kinney explored Lamson’s history, the inspiration behind the 250th Anniversary Fire Chef Knife, and the people who continue to shape our company today. Douglas Hook captured images throughout our Westfield facility, highlighting the craftsmanship, team and environment behind a brand that has remained part of Western Massachusetts manufacturing for generations.
We are grateful to Jim Kinney, Douglas Hook, The Republican, and MassLive for taking the time to visit Lamson and share our story. Their feature provided an opportunity to showcase not only this commemorative release but also the history, craftsmanship, and people, and passion behind the Lamson name.
